This one requires a bit much in the way of prep time to be an “active writer” recipe, but it’s good enough to be worth the effort.
There was a buffet restaurant near here some time back that had, on Sunday evenings, this bacon wrapped shrimp in a butter sauce that was incredibly good. Then they went out of business and I wasn’t able to find it locally. I came up with this. It’s not quite the same but it’s still pretty good.
There’s nothing “healthy” about this dish by conventional standards. You can tell yourself that the shrimp are high in Omega 3 fatty acids which help with good cholesterol if that makes you feel better. Or you can just enjoy it for what it is, a really tasty dish.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 Tbsp garlic, finely minced
- 1 lb jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 lb bacon
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Melt the butter in a saucepan. Add the garlic, and cook over very low heat for 5-10 minutes.
Cut the bacon strips in half. Wrap each half around one piece of shrimp. Arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet.
Drizzle the butter over the shrimp. Spoon spoon the garlic out of the pan and scatter it over the shrimp.
Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes.
Prepare yourself for a foretaste of heaven. In other words, enjoy.
Add Worcestershire sauce to the garlic butter combo to add a little kick and flavor. That is the way we do it. (well, actually my cajun wife and her dad).
